Slovenia's drinking culture is as rich and diverse as its cuisine. From fruit brandies distilled in copper stills to craft beers and natural wines, the country offers a remarkable range of beverages.
Fruit spirits (zganje) are produced in nearly every rural household. The most famous varieties include Slivovka (plum), Viljamovka (Williams pear), and Brinjevec (juniper). Medica, a honey-based spirit, represents one of the oldest Slovenian traditions.
The beer scene features historic brands like Union and Lasko alongside a growing craft movement. Natural fruit juices and syrups made from elderflower, blueberry, and forest fruits remain popular homemade traditions.
