Slovenia's wine landscape is divided into three main wine-growing regions, each with its own distinct character, climate, and grape varieties.
Primorska
The westernmost region enjoys a Mediterranean climate, producing full-bodied reds like Teran and Refosk, alongside elegant whites such as Rebula, Malvazija, and Pinot Grigio. The famous Goriska Brda hills and Vipava Valley are located here.
Podravje
The northeastern region is dominated by continental and Pannonian climates. It excels in aromatic white wines: Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Sipon (Furmint), and Traminer. The Ljutomer-Ormoz and Maribor sub-regions are particularly renowned.
Posavje
The southeastern region is home to the unique Cvicek - a light, refreshing blend of red and white grapes that holds PDO status. The Dolenjska and Bela Krajina sub-regions produce distinctive wines tied to local tradition.
